By request of StarPilot, VirtualClassroomWaveStructureMatter is now open. Fire away folks. I just add a cautionary note that not everyone involved agrees on what WSM actually is. So what follows is my view and anyone else can say what they want.
What is WSM or the Wave Structure of Matter?
It is the idea that matter is not something intrinsically different from anything else in the universe, which really means e/m. Matter is spherical standing waves of electromagnetism. There is an in wave and an outwave that between them make a standing wave. Each of the in and out wave are made up of spheres coming inwards or outwards and obviously the outwave is the in wave after it passes through the centre.
How does the in wave know where it is supposed to appear?
Well, it doesn't. Wheeler and Feynman had mystical problems with advance and retarded waves and almost got the solution. The solution is that the waves do not need to know where to converge on the particle because wherever they converge, that is the particle. Note that the sum of a bunch (bunch means a heck of a lot of tiny ones) of plane waves through a point is a spherical wave - this is a mathematical fact.
What is the wavelength of these waves?
They have a wavelength given by the Compton wavelength of the particle. This means that de Broglie wave behavior can all be correctly calculated by the interaction of the particle's spherical wave structure with the observer's particle's spherical wave structure. It seems that de Broglie understood all this but that history (as it is prone) only kept about half of what he worked out.

There are various ways of looking at it. To stay close to standard physics, I would say it is an electromagnetic wave following Maxwell's equations. However as Maxwell's equations fit a tensile aether, it is a simpler form for understanding - once you get your head around the idea that the whole universe is solid and that what we see as solids is just vibrations of that solid. All the reasons for dismissing an aether in the early 1900s were overturned once Schroedinger and de Broglie showed that matter is also waves.
DS| - I imagine a fish tank with fish made of waves of water. These fish don't know they live in water, they are water. They can't see or touch or otherwise sense the water since any act of sensing would just be more waves in water. They might be able to collect something like a ball made of more vibrations and throw it at another ball and see it break down into smaller vibrations in water. Or they might be able to create a stream of such balls directed through a small space between two walls of vibrations and measure the effect of the waves interacting and interfering or amplifying each other. (particle accelerators, slit experiment) Am I on the right track?
DS| - My fish tank would have to be completely isolated from outside input or output. The water would have to be absolutely purified H2O. The temperature would have to remain constant. The nature of the waves would be governed by how two molecules of water interact when they approach each other. The smallest unit of measure would be determined by the nature of one molecule of water. My tank would have to be quite large in order to accommodate the kind of complexity that a fish made up of these waves would require. One atom of such a fish would likely need a tank the size of our planet or solar system, give or take a few hundred orders of magnitude.
What rules govern this solid of which we are but waves? What does our tank look like from the outside? Is it a closed system, or is there a little kid banging on it from the outside every once in a while? If we as sentient beings emerge from thousands of tiny standing waves, could another class of objects, animate or otherwise, exist in media that also communicates standing waves? ---DavidSiegel
